Amine Bassi leaves Nancy for Greece

Amine Bassi, former midfielder trained at AS Nancy, has signed a contract until 2028 with FC Panetolikos, a Super League 1 club based in Agrinio. Free since January after his Houston deal ended, the Franco‑Moroccan returns to action after several months of inactivity.

What path led to the move?

Bassi left Nancy's academy to join FC Metz in 2021, where he spent two seasons before a loan spell at Barnsley in England. In 2023 he crossed the Atlantic to sign with Houston Dynamo in MLS. Over three campaigns with the Dynamo he netted 15 goals and provided 12 assists in 88 matches, showing an ability to create play far from France.

Why a new challenge in Greece?

Panetolikos, which finished eleventh of fourteen last season, is looking to bolster its midfield with an experienced player from top leagues. For Bassi, it’s a chance to discover a third foreign championship, add a European dimension to his résumé, and help a club fighting relegation. His long‑term deal (until 2028) signals the Greek side’s confidence in his abilities.

Impact on AS Nancy

Bassi’s departure does not directly affect the current squad, but it highlights the role of Nancy’s academy. AS Nancy currently sits 14th in Ligue 2 with 37 points (9 wins, 10 draws, 15 losses from 34 games) and recently beat Dunkerque 3‑2 on 2026‑05‑09. The club remains 30 points behind leaders ESTAC Troyes and must still tighten its defence, having conceded 52 goals while scoring 35 this season.

What lies ahead?

Bassi will start the 2026‑27 season with Panetolikos, which hopes to climb out of the lower end of the table. For Nancy, the priority stays a return to Ligue 1, and the club continues to rely on its youth prospects. Monitoring Bassi’s progress abroad will provide another measure of the quality of Nancy’s training centre.
